But it's my right if I want to.
Too many people seem to be jumping down the throats of everyone else due to their views... their so called morals...
...which are nothing more than someone telling you that if you don't see things their way... you shouldn't be able to exist within your own opinions and frame of mind.
I'm not saying i would burn a flag. I'm not saying that it's even a good idea.
But people fought to give me the right to demostrate my feelings, to protest, to question everything around me.
They even fought to give me the right to create a symbolic gesture as the one above.
Most people don't get it though... thick skulled... closed minded... or who are just dumb as rocks...
who don't realize that there is a difference between
having the right to do something that maybe considered disrespectful to some
and
making it illegal to do something that maybe be considered disrespectful.
After all... it's all symbolism...
just like my finger...
Flag-Burning Amendment One Vote From Passage
While I'm not happy it won't be protected, I'm thrilled my years in the service weren't pissed away.
Your rights are your rights. No matter if I disagree or not.
That's what it's all about.
It's so refreshing to hear somebody else who thinks like I do. It seems that everyone just nods their heads and agrees with whatever they are told by our government.
It amazes me that while we are "fighting for democracy" we have had more rights taken away since the declaration of independence. When I was a kid in the 1960" my mother told me about places in the world where people were afraid of a "knock on the door" because it could be the government - they could take you - and your family would never hear from you again. Mom was referring to WW II and Nazi Germany. I wonder what she would say today - knowing that our "democratic" government has those same rights. We call ourselves a democracy - we want the whole world to be a democracy - whether they want iot or not. What do people who live in other countries think when they learn the tenants of our basic freedom have been taken away?
As a "product" of the 1960's and 1970's I am appaled at the apathy in our country.
Where are all the question?
Why don't more of us demand accountability from our government?
